The Sketchbook Project Vol. 17
During our pandemic, I became an official artist for the Brooklyn Art Library. The Sketchbook Project helped me creatively focus with the theme, Transparencies. Let’s be real, the last year hasn’t been easy for anyone. An artist with an essential worker day job, my energy is drained, daily, to the point where it has been difficult to sit and make art. Luckily, through this opportunity, I was able to find a new practice flow, peace, healing and inspiration through a release of emotions page after page. Mailing the sketchbook felt like a big chapter of life has been closed and the wisdom learned will sit on a shelf waiting to be checked out & travel the World. What a joy to be a part of a unique art community!
How It Began
Breaking it down and rebuilding, using the existing pages from the sketchbook, I began creating signatures.
Coptic Stitch
Fascinated by the history of bookbinding, I wanted to create a book that would feel old, lived in, worn like life, an imperfect beauty. The uneven edges give you views of every page, however you hold it.
