Four Frames Project: Painted Quilts

Four Frames Project: Painted Quilts

In 2019, during two separate visits, my mom and I had marathon studio sessions. We were blessed with great collaboration vibes, a re-connection to ourselves, each other, our creative roots and to our spirituality.

When my mom came to visit, she found 4 frames discarded in a pile by the side of the street with a sign stating, “Free.” She snatched them up and we came up with the idea to make a series from scratch as if, we were cooking without a recipe. We began by pulling supplies and scraps from my studio shelves and we fit them together like a puzzle using quilting techniques. Testing the flavors as we created, these four pieces came together naturally and with a flavorful palette.

Behind The Scenes: How It Began

Four Frames Project: Painted Quilts

Before I adopted Daisy, my mom took a road trip from AZ with her barely one year old studio (cat) assistant, Cherokee. The brave little dude is the sweetest and dove right in to work on this project. My mom left Cherokee home for her second studio visit because, I had newly adopted my studio (cat) assistant, Daisy.

Final Touches sewn by my mom. She taught me everything there is to know about sewing and I am thankful for her support. It was a joy watching her sew on my 1920’s Singer. She has no fear and goes all in.

Of all the roads she traveled, the journey back to herself was the most magnificent.

Mom,

Mom,

How could I possibly thank you enough, to the one who made me whole. The one to whom I owe my life, the forming of my soul. The one who tucked me in at night, the one who stopped my crying. The one who made such sacrifices, to always put me first. What way is there to thank you, for your heart, your sweat, your tears? Look at me before you, and see what I’ve become. A transfer over many years, your best was passed to me. Thank you for the gifts you give, for everything you do. I love you.
